Here, lemme... [ Eda turns back to Varian in the cocoon and peels off the bandaid. Tossing it aside, she dredges up her (limited) knowledge of healing magic and draws a little gold circle in the air.
After a moment, the cut glows gold, then seals up like it was never there, except for a little bit of pink in its stead. ] No harm done. As for him being stuck. [ Eda steps over to peer at his face, just visible under the cocoon. ] When people leave, they just leave. I dunno why Sodder would knock somebody unconscious when she's torturing everyone else. Seems fishy to me. So I'd bet that he's back in a few days. If I'm wrong, I'll owe ya the 20 bucks I won from triglyceride last week, and then we'll figure something else out.
[Luz was a million times grateful that Eda was here helping, and even being her usual Eda self without ignoring Fern's pain. Times like these reminded Luz how happy she was to be working for Eda].
I think Varian is pretty safe with you around. Not everyone can have one of the best bodyguards in Deerington watching over him. Maybe a few small traps wouldn't hurt if you're really concerned some bogus stuff might go down later.
[Seeing Eda be able to heal the cut he left is a little reassuring. He still feels guilty for causing it, but at least it can't hurt Varian anymore. Small victories?
He also doesn't like just leaving Varian, but if there's nothing Eda can do with her magic, then he doesn't really have any other options. Luz is offering some much-needed distraction, and he glances over at her.]
Varian's got some alchemy traps in the basement. I think I could set them up.
[It'll give him something to do for a little while, and he sorely needs that.
He'll look back over at Eda, as well.]
... If he's still like this in a couple of days can I call you guys again?
Yeah, yeah, his alchemy stuff should do it. I could also put a shield around him if you want-- hold up.
[ She blinks, and idea coming to her head.
She turns back around, squinting at Varian. It's a bad idea, probably, to try and teleport Varian out of there, but, hell. She concentrates hard and draws another circle in the air and--
Nothing. ]
Eh, it was worth a shot. I could also try to get you in there, but who knows how that would go here.
Yeah, yeah, that can work. [ Eda puts a hand on Luz's shoulder, then takes a step back. ] We'll just put it around his bed. No one in or out except Varian and Fern, and us. Promise, we won't hurt the smart guy. [ She aims a wink back at Fern ]
Alright, hold on, kiddo. [ Eda tells Luz before focusing on Varian.
For once, she draws more than a circle. She draws an area around his bed that crackles with gold fire. It's nice, to have Luz there, supporting her, feeding magic, extra magic, different magic, into her.
She raises her hands, and a transparent gold sphere encompasses Varian's cocoon.
She drops her hands with a sigh. ] There ya go. Nothing's getting through that.
[Once she sees Eda starting her circle, Luz concentrates on the golden fire before her eyes and then closes her own, focusing her energy on the magic she feels being concentrated on Varian. Now she didn't even have to watch to feel it all around her: Deerington's energy and Eda's seemed to merge on the spot, and adding her own felt a little easier thanks to Eda and the aforementioned meditation technique.
When she opened her eyes again, she felt herself tingling, and she couldn't help but smile].
Hope Varian doesn't mind the magic. He IS more of a science guy after all.
[Fern waits quietly for the two of them to do their magic thing, nervously antsy that it'll backfire or something. That happens sometimes in Deerington, and with how today has gone he wouldn't be surprised if that happened.
When it comes, it takes him all of five seconds to step inside the room and yank both of them into a desperately tight hug.]
[That was unexpected, but not unwanted. So he really cares about Varian Luz quietly said to herself, not that she hadn't believed it before, but it was more intense than she had expected. Varian was likely to Fern what Margot was to her].
The hug gets dropped pretty quick, since Fern still isn't feeling too great over all of this. He really, really hopes Eda is right, and slumps, glancing over at Varian in the cocoon.]
He likes to make bets. Me and him had a bet going on whether math was cool.
[He gives a little nod. Under normal circumstances he'd be pumped to see whatever the heck a grudgeby match is. As it is, he just files it away as hopefully something to look forward to when (if) Varian gets back to normal.]
That's what Varian said.
[What a nerd, recognizing that math is needed for tons of stuff in the world.
He makes a noise akin to a sigh. Yeah, he needs to stick around here and keep guard.]

Maybe the two of us can put up a shield together, and Fern can decide what traps he'll put up in addition?

Can you guys do a shield that won't keep him stuck there, even if he wakes up?
[Something he can walk in and out of, he means.]

You ready, Luz?

[She looked over at Eda, quietly recalling Darth Maul's meditation exercises and taking a few deep breaths].
All right Eda. I'm ready.

Thanks, guys.
[He deeply appreciates all the help they're giving with this.]

He better be fine. We still have a bet to settle. Doesn't seem like the type of guy to lose by default.

You let us know if you need anything, alright? I'd offer that you can come over but, [ well, she knows he won't want to. ]

Come on guys, you need math for lots of stuff in the world. Annoying but necessary.
Yeah, just drop us a note! I shouldn't be busy yet, and I still have to learn training from you anyway!

[Luz resembled that remark! Not quite to Varian's extent (he was SUPER smart in Luz's opinion) but still].
I'm sure he'll be ok, and if something happens, we'll be around.
