[You know what's a good time, Eda? When you have a random, chonky raccoon scratching on your door. He has a little saddlebag around his sides, and should she open the door to him, he'll rummage around in it and pull out a vial of what looks to be an exact replica of her elixir. With his free paw he holds up one little claw-finger in a wait a minute gesture, before reaching into the bag again, chittering to himself, finally pulling out a piece of paper- holding that out too. On the paper is a note: ]
Hi Eda. Hope Ruddiger found you okay. Here's a vial of elixir for you. I'll work on getting more for you ASAP, so you don't have to worry about running out. And if you want to learn how to make them, I can help with that too- whichever you're happier with. Hope you're resting up!
Varian
[The raccoon is just gonna sit there patiently, looking up at her expectantly. He's honestly just glad he's not carting stupid love letters back and forth between his dumb human and the battle girl for a change. ]
[Ruddiger does, indeed accept pets. He nuzzles her hand a little, before taking the note, putting it in his little satchel. He chitters raccoon-ish nonsense at her, before giving her a salute with his little paw.
Then off he scuttles into the town- heading off in the direction of home. But hey, Eda's been twice blessed. Raccoon pets AND an elixir! Lucky her. ]
[On Christmas Day, Eda will find a wrapped present at her door. Inside is a pile of science books. So many science books. Along with them is a note: ]
Merry Christmas, Eda. This is an Earth holiday when you give the people you care about presents. So I'm giving unto you the gift of knowledge! Don't spend it all at once!
[Eda will find a poorly wrapped gift for her sitting out on table in the living room. There's a small note attached, saying "thanks for letting me live here".
Inside is a hair dryer, which Margot assumes is a body warmer.]
[ Eda finds it later that day, unwraps it, and stares down at the hairdryer.
She's pretty sure she knows what it is.
She heads up to Margot's room, knocking on the door with a bemused look on her face. Luz keeps getting on her about her not washing her hair, and now this! ] Luz put you up to this, didn't she?
I know you did this to be smug but honestly, I'm just really impressed you read up on triglyceride enough to land this joke. Hope you enjoyed learning about science!!
[On the 25th Eda will find a gift has been left outside her door! According to the tag it's from Fern, and inside the meticulously wrapped package is a a slightly creepy owl carved out of bone.
thanks, kiddo. this little owl will get a place of honor. hope owlbert doesn't get jealous!
i got something for you too. owlbert will bring it by. the zombies don't want to hurt him.
[ She totally didn't get something for him, but she likes Fern and so she pulls something together.
A day later, Owlbert taps on Fern's window with a lumpy bundle in his talons. When Fern opens it up, he'll find a knitted hat, in much the same shape as the hat that Fern usually wears, but it's blue, that's enchanted to keep him extra warm. ]
[ And he indeed is. Later that day, Owlbert finds his way into the Disaster house and locates Varian, wherever he is. He carries a badly wrapped package in his talons. When Varian unwraps it, he'll find that it's a small action figure that's enchanted to yell motivational phrases like "Science sucks!" and "You'll never beat the Owl Lady!" and "Better study up, smart guy!". ]
[Ohhhhhhhhhh man that's an excellent gift. Fern loves it - in fact, he loves it so much he's swapping his grass hat out for it, taking a selfie, and sending it to Eda.]
thanks!!! this might be the best hat ever, it's even my favourite colour!
[So thanks to both Lysithea and Mako, Luz was now understanding of how much her mentor mom likes cake. She takes the whole day to make Eda Dominican Cake which she definitely made sure to send Eda out of the house while she baked it herself! For good measure she also makes gingerbread cookies shaped like owls and brooms, with chocolate milk as a side. Not Luz's most sustainable gift, but certainly a delicious one!]
Merry-- [ Eda stamps off snow, pulling off her winter gear as she gets back home from a day of fighting zombies and trying to make sales, although nobody's out because, ya know, the zombies.
She stares at the cake, and the cookies, and the milk, and is a little dumbstruck.
Maybe this Christmas thing isn't so bad. ] That cake for me?
[ Eda laughs, looking down at the hairdryer. She doesn't need to brush Margot's bubble ] Good point, there, kid. Well, if she does try to help you, know that I got this under control. [ She jerks her thumb at her mass of grey hair. ] I'll make good use of this thing.
[ Eda's going to hug her back, a real smile on her lips. She squeezes Luz tighter. ] Looks pretty great. Heh, pity King isn't here. He'd love that.
[ She pats Luz's back as she lets go. ] Christmas, huh? [ She looks down at Luz fondly. She... is only now realizing that gifts are traditional on Christmas. But she just gave Luz that cowboy hat... ] How about we eat it together?
